Menu-Hours :-O goldnuggettavernandgrille
Gold Nugget is a restaurant bar in Minnetonka's Glen Lake neighborhood. Reincarnation of the classic historic roadhouse tavern dive that once resided in this same spot. Now gussied up as an upscale slick modern version with higher prices taking up a much larger space (3 or 4 times) on the first floor of a 4 story apartment complex. It's so much nicer, they had to stick an "e" at the end of grill. Glen Lake is going through a rebirth/re-imagining with new development in the Glen Lake Station area (old trolley car stop on the way to Lake Minnetonka) even while the economy is in shambles. Secluded little Glen Lake is probably one of the cooler places in the "burbs". We used to go for beer and burgers at the old place - It was sad to watch that old heap torn down and a bigger shock to see what took its place. It has become an even more popular destination though. It lives on as a local hangout and meeting place catering to everyone from office workers out for some team building to young and old families, to seniors and tradesmen to teens and professionals.
If you come at the regular eating times you will wait. With alumni from D'Amico Cucina, Campiello and Masa in the kitchen and management and a menu that now includes pastas, meatloaf and seafood - there is no doubt that a new era has begun. Big windows. Wide open space. Impressive bar. High tin stamped ceiling. Dark woods. Historic pictures. Sports on the TVs in the bar.
The service is friendly and attentive. Happy hour menu is only in the bar - tap beers are $1 off. Gold Nugget burger with fries is $6.95 instead of $8.95. We really like the burgers, sweet potato fries and cole slaw. They have the annoying practice of up selling you on the extensive toppings for the burgers and the fries which they neglect to mention are $.50 - 1.75 each. The tap beers come in either 12, 16 or 22 oz as well as pitchers. The food (like about 95% of Minnesotans) is above average. Highlights: The GN burger, sweet potato fries, cole slaw and one of their tap beers from a pretty good selection is highly recommended - especially during happy hours.
